Supporting our future Entrepreneurs

April 9, 2019

The Briody Group are delighted to once again support our local school with their Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP). The learning that takes place during the JEP gives children a greater understanding of many things that happen in the real world. The programme aims to aid children’s understanding of the value of goods and services and how skill, talent and creativity can create more than the sum of their parts in an entrepreneurial enterprise.

Barry Kevin (Briody Group) gives a talk to students on the importance of Health & Safety in the workplace

Following meetings with class teacher Mr Farrell, a tour of our facilities was organised with students from 5th & 6th class observing every aspect of the business from production to administration to logistics. Our Health & Safety and HR Officers attended the school in advance to give the students an overview of the business as well as a safety talk to ensure their wellbeing on the tour.

Kathryn Cooke (Briody Group) Shane McHugh (School Principal) and Patrick Twomey (Parent’s representative) listen intently to the student’s presentations.

Students returned to the classroom to put what they learned into practice and to develop their entrepreneurial ideas before presenting their business plans to their parents and a panel of ‘Dragons’ with our HR officer, Kathryn Cooke, representing the Company. Six very impressive presentations were made and after much deliberation it was decided that the ‘Smart Trough’ should progress to the Regional judging stage.

Mr McHugh tries out the ‘Smart Trough’

We look forward to hearing how the winning team get on but given the quality of all the presentations we are confident that all the students that took part have very bright futures ahead of them!
